Autumnal | October 2017

October was a lovely month here. Though the fall colors weren’t as vivid as I’d hoped, there were still a few pops of bright red or gold among the leaves. With NaNo prep, revisions, and a general life happenings, it was a pretty busy month.
WRITING
The Assassin’s Daughter ebook is available to libraries!
I may have fangirl-shrieked a little bit when I saw this.

If you’ve been wanting to read TAD but aren’t sure about buying it, maybe consider dropping a request for the ebook with your library system? (It’s available through Overdrive and Bibliotheca.)

Starting more revisions in TAD2.
I had grand plans of finishing this in time to get it out for feedback by the end of the month, but those plans fell through. I’m disappointed, but I overestimated my own writing speed and consistency for this month, as well as my schedule. Sometimes that’s how it goes.

I finished reading through the draft I completed last month and making my own notes for it, and now I’m applying those. I’m planning to continue working on TAD2 throughout November, but I’m hesitant to say when this draft will be done. Hopefully I’ll have something more definitive by December though!

Prep for NaNoWriMo.
It’s upon us, y’all.

I’m looking forward to trying out Scrivener as I draft Spinner & Kidd during NaNo. I’m also eager to see how this story takes shape on the page. It’s more of a for-fun project so it’ll be interesting to see what happens along the way. If you’re participating in NaNo, let’s be buddies!
BLOGGING
The blog design has been updated a little bit, and I’m trying out some new colors for posts. Do you prefer to read blog posts in dark gray like this one, or the dark purple I normally use?

ON THE BLOG

AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE
LIFE
Fall festivities.
Pumpkins were carved and painted, the house decorated for autumn, and cooler weather enjoyed with nights out by the fire pit and mornings on the porch watching the sun rise. One Saturday afternoon was spent in a corn maze with my mom, siblings, and nephew (without getting lost!). It’s a little difficult to believe so much of the season is already gone, but now there’s Thanksgiving to look forward to (which is one of my favorite holidays).

It’s been a while since I painted anything, so his face is lopsided... His eyes glow though!
#OTOctober.
I heard about this challenge Nadine Brandes was hosting and thought it looked like a fun way to change up my Bible-reading routine. I love reading the Old Testament, so I decided to start with some of my favorites: The books of history. I started with Judges, and also read I and II Samuel, I and II Kings, and started I Chronicles.
Reading.
I finally got around to rereading The Lunar Chronicles! (I’ve had Wires & Nerve on my shelf for months but didn’t want to read it until I’d reread the others.) I’m about halfway through the series now. I also completed a couple of audiobooks.
How was your October? Did you have any fall adventures? Are you preparing for NaNo? Tell me all about it in the comments!

I'm sorry you weren't able to finish all you wanted to do with TAD2, but I've been in AWE at how consistently you've plugged away at it. You're absolutely going to get it done and it's gonna be FABULOUS!

I've been loving your new blog designs. It's so crisp and pretty!

    1. Yes! It's so nice!

Thank you so much! I'm still fangirling a little bit about it because that's always been one of my author dreams. ^_^

Aw, thanks! I'm trying to tell myself that it's okay if it takes a little longer than planned, because I want it to be its best. :)

I'm glad! I wanted something a little more mobile-friendly than my old template was, so I've been wanting to make it easy to read and navigate, while still having some pops of color in there. :)

IT'S SOOOOOO CLOSE *screeches* Best wishes!

  2. Same here! I was hoping for more vibrant colors amidst the trees, but it seems our weather wishes to skip ahead to WINTER. *brrrrrr*

So happy for you, girlie! Congrats regarding TAD!!! And no worries about TAD2, life happens! but you'll definitely get there. And I can't wait to read it!!!

The blog design is so LOVELY. I really like the simple look - so easy to read and wonderful on the eyes. (Especially if one has been staring at a screen for far too long than is healthy. . .) ;D Love it!! I know I just updated my blog look, but I'm thinking of changing it again. . . The current template is too limited for my photos. :/ Mind if I ask what you use to design yours??

Well done, Jamie! Best wishes in your NaNo journey!!

    1. Yes! The weather here is so weird (some places nearby even had snow over the weekend!).

Thank you so much! I'm trying to get used to the slower process because I do want it to be really good, but I'm hopeful it's getting there. One of these days. :)

Thanks! I definitely wanted it to be easy to read and not too busy, while still having some pops of color. (And it's a little more mobile-friendly, which is helpful.) I use the "Soho" template from Blogger, and customized the colors and fonts in the editor. The header can be a little bit tricky to get just right. but overall it's pretty easy to maintain and customize. :)

Best NaNo wishes to you too!

It's exciting to see your book available to more people, and I love your cat pumpkin, so cute!

    Best of luck during November!
