When I’m Not Writing

Most of the time on Lovely Whatsoevers, I talk about writing. Initially, I started LW as a place to combine the content of the two blogs I was keeping at the time, so that I could blog about writing and life in one place. I still do this, but writing is the topic I address more often than not.

So today, I’m going to talk about a few of the things I do when I’m not writing.

Reading

Honestly, I talk about what I’m reading pretty often on LW too, but not as often as I used to.

I’ve been back in the habit of reading multiple books at a time (something I stopped doing somewhere around 2011 when life started getting super busy and then I just never got started again). Usually, it’s broken down in categories: a print book, an ebook, and an audiobook.

Currently reading:
Emma by Jane Austen
Beastly Bones by William Ritter

Baking

Sometimes I aspire to being really good at cake decoration and things like that, but at present, I am not. Still, I love trying out new recipes and attempting to make something that tastes good and doesn’t look bad. My favorite things to bake are cake and cookies.

Drawing

I used to draw a lot. In fact, it was something that took up more of my time than writing! I was never super-talented at it, but it was fun. Unfortunately, I’ve gotten out of practice in the last few years. One of my recent goals for myself was to start doing other creative things besides writing, so I’ve started doodling and sketching again.

Journaling

My journaling habits are not very consistent. I think my earliest attempt occurred when I was about eight years old. I wrote…three entries?

When I was about nine, my parents gave me several Lord of the Rings-themed journals for Christmas, and that inspired me to pick up the habit again. At times, I’ve gone months without writing in my journal at all, but it’s something I’ve really come to enjoy. I filled up the LOTR journals years ago, as well as a few others.

Photography

I love snapping photos of my favorite moments or of something pretty. I’ve always loved taking pictures, and so in 2010 I bought a point-and-shoot purple Kodak camera that went with me everywhere. Sadly, it’s picture-taking quality has deteriorated,  so now most of my photos are taken on my phone.

Traveling

This is something I wish I could do more of. I love seeing new places and exploring them, or even revisiting places I’ve been to before! Road trips make me happy. (And I think it would be awesome to road trip across the States one day!)

So, that’s some of what I do when I’m not writing! What are some of your favorite hobbies?

Comments

  1. I like reading and writing, too. :) I don't have too many other creative hobbies, but I do like watching television a lot. In an analytical way, not a couch-potato way. (okay, a little bit of a couch-potato way)

    1. Ooh, yes. TV is nice, though I'm so behind on so many shows! And it is fun to analyze shows! There are so many neat layers to look at. :)
