Life Lessons Learned from Fantasy Tag

I was tagged by Christine for this one back in February…and I’ve gotten a bit behind on tags and blog posts. But here we are now!  Fantasy is my favorite genre to write and one of my favorites to read, so this tag sounds really fun!

Rules:
1.) Link back to Jenelle’s Blog.
2.) Use the “February is Fantasy Month” image.
3.) Tell us 5-10 lessons you’ve learned from reading a fantasy book
(or watching a fantasy movie) – lessons can come
from multiple sources, as well, of course.
4.) Tag 2-4 other bloggers to keep the game going.

This may technically be against the rules, but I had a difficult time narrowing the lessons down by book/movie, so I decided to do a general “overview” instead, since my favorite things about fantasy tend to be themes that repeat.

Hope
In so much of fantasy, there is a theme of hope. No matter how bad the situation or how big the villain, the heroes cling to hope and fight to keep the spark alive for everyone else.

Friendship & Loyalty
While they aren’t the same thing, friendship and loyalty do work closely together most of the time. I love stories about friendships that are more like family, and it inspires me to try to be a better friend as well.

Courage
Facing what you’re afraid of is tough. Even if it’s something that seems small to everyone else. Some of my favorite stories feature characters who learn to fight against their fears and keep going.

Determination
Keeping hope alive can be exhausting. Sometimes, it feels like it would be better just to give up and stop fighting because it’s tiring, dirty work. But without determination, how far would the heroes get? How far would we?

I’m leaving this one open for whoever wants to join this tag!

  1. You did the tag! YAAAY!!!! Oh, I LOVE how you named specific themes found in fantasy instead of specific stories. And sooooo much yes to ALL THE THINGS. I 100% agree with all of these you listed. They're pretty much all found in fantasy stories, which may be why I love fantasy so very much. It teaches me to cling to hope and have courage and determination. And FRIENDSHIPS. Deep, loyal friendships in stories is the BEST. I LOVE ALL OF THIS!!!

    1. This was so much fun! I started to do it by titles, but the more I thought about it the more I realized they all share the same themes! I think fantasy just amplifies them because there are SO many ways to explore them in a story. Thanks so much for the tag!
