Tickets for Thor

We’re living in the same month as the theatrical release of Avengers: Infinity War, y’all.

I am both soooooo ready and also not ready at all. In the middle of attempting to prepare my emotions for this movie, I thought I’d share a story about a moment that turned out, in hindsight, to look like a bit of humorous foreshadowing for my MCU fangirl feels.

What my emotions will probably be while watching Infinity War.
Story time!

Opening weekend for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. My sister, youngest brother, and I were waiting to pick up our tickets for an afternoon showing—my sister and I enthusiastically garbed in pirate-inspired clothing while my brother waited a distance away trying to make it look like he wasn’t with us. (He did choose to sit with us in the theater though, hehe.)

Small talk was made with a fellow waiting in the next line to reserve tickets for the next showing, with the parting remark to let him “know if the movie’s any good,” and a few minutes later, I approached the counter to pick up our tickets.

The cashier jokingly asked, “Let me guess: Tickets for Thor?”

A second or two of good-natured laughter later, the tickets were picked up, and my siblings and I made our way to the theater to find our seats and enjoy the movie.

Fast forward a few months and Thor was released on DVD. Prior to this, I had seen all of the MCU movies (with the exception of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger) and enjoyed them.

And then we rented Thor.

Pretty much me through the whole movie.

It somehow managed to feature many of my favorite things in stories: redemption arcs, sibling relationships, family dynamics, all wrapped up in a science-fantasy blend full of humor and action.

This was it: The One. The movie that really made the MCU a major fiction interest for me, and introduced me to my favorite superhero (and one of my favorite antagonists). Thor was the first MCU movie I bought and truth be told, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched the movie over the years.

But it wasn’t until last year when my sister and I were chatting about different movies (probably Pirates) that we ended up laughing over that flicker of a moment in a movie theater in 2011.

Because sometimes it’s fun to look back on something and laugh over a real-life moment of foreshadowing—even if it’s something as simple as a trip to the movies.

Tell me: Which MCU movie was The One for you? Are you ready for Infinity War? Any theories you want to share?

  1. Awwww! I love this! It's DEFINITELY the best when life foreshadows you. It's so much fun to look back at something seemingly insignificant at the time, and then realize just how much it changed your life.

I started watching the Marvel movies pretty much from the start when Iron Man came out on DVD. And I was INSTANTLY hooked. Been a Marvel girl ever since.

BUT I'M NOT READY FOR INFINITY WAR. At the same time, I'M SO READY FOR INFINITY WAR. BUT AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S GOING TO DESTROY US! D:

    1. It is!

Iron Man is still one of my favorite movies. It's just so GREAT. (It's been way too long since I last watched it too. I should remedy that!)

I KNOW. How is it already time for this movie to be here?! I'm eager to see what happens but I'm also suspicious of what's going to happen to all of these characters I love. O_O
