Ten questions about all things fairy tale! Check out the linkup here.
What’s an obscure fairy tale you love?
Tatterhood! I read it several years ago and have wanted to do a retelling inspired by it ever since. Maybe one day…

If you got to choose Disney’s next animated princess movie, what fairy tale would you choose to be adapted?
Ooh, I think it would be kind of fun to see Disney take on Rumpelstiltskin. I mean, technically they kinda did in Once Upon a Time, but there are just so many ways you could spin the story and make it unique and fun, and I think it could be a neat addition to the Disney canon. Or The Twelve Dancing Princesses!

I’ve never finished the last couple of seasons of the show
but Gold/Rumpel was definitely a favorite!

What is the first fairy tale you remember hearing when you were a child?
The first I can remember the title of is Rapunzel. It was one of my favorites as a kid, and is still a favorite now!

If you were to embark on a fairy tale quest, what necessities would you pack in your bag?
Aside from the necessities of food and water, I would totally be up for one of those magic glowing swords or maybe a book that shows you any information you might need to know on your journey… AND A REALLY COOL CLOAK ;D

What’s your favorite fairy tale trope?
Fairy godmothers are a super fun trope because they can be either good or bad. But I also love talking animals in fairy tales too.

If you could be any fairy tale character archetype (the princess, the soldier, fairy godmother, talking animal, mischievous imp, wise old woman, evil stepmother/sister, etc.), who would you want to be and why?
As fun as it would be to be a princess, I also wouldn’t mind being the wise old woman in a fairy tale. Oh, or maybe the fairy godmother!

What animal/mythical creature would be your sidekick for fairy tale adventures?
Can I have a dragon? Or a talking cat?

What is your favorite historical era, and what fairy tale would you love to see in that setting?
Oh my goodness, history is one of my favorite things so this is hard to narrow down, but I’ll keep it to three for the moment: Ancient Egypt, the American Revolution, and maybe just about any period in 19th-century America. I don’t think I’ve read a fairy tale set during any of those periods (with the exception of the Old West), but I feel like there is a lot of potential for setting, characters, conflict, and creative ways of incorporating fairy tale elements. I’m not sure which fairy tales I would choose though!

If you could change a fairy tale’s villain into a hero, who would you choose and why?
That’s a tough one, because so many of the ones I thought of have already been retold as heroes in something I’ve read or watched... It could be interesting to see the villainess of Rapunzel written as a heroine though.

Do you prefer fairy tales with happy endings or sad/tragic endings? why or why not?
I’m very fond of happy endings for fairy tales. So many fairy tale characters go through horrible things—they’ve earned some happiness!
What are your favorite fairy tales and/or retellings?

  1. I LOVE TATTERHOOD!

I also love cloaks. I wish I had one. A Rumpelstiltskin retelling would make for a really cool Disney movie! I wish they'd do that!

    1. It's such a cool one!

Yesss. Cloaks definitely need a comeback.

There's so much potential with Disney's style and such, it'd be neat to see what they could do with the story!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. YOU DID THE TAG. YAAAY!!!! Love, love, LOVED your answers!

I just read Tatterhood yesterday, since you had mentioned it on my blog, and OH MY GOODNESS. What a bizarre, epic story! I feel like I've missed out not knowing about this story until now. It was a riot! XD

Ooooh, a Rumpelstiltskin Disney movie? :O That would be EPIC. I haven't even thought of that. But now I want this to be a thing!!!

Oh yes, a cool cloak for you adventure is a MUST. Love it! XD

I read one retelling called The Witch's Tower that had a GOOD Mother Gothel as the protagonist. It was a lot of fun! What would be really interesting is her starting out as the villain and having an epic character arc where she ends up becoming a hero. Ah man, now I want this... I get so many retelling ideas with FTC, it's just ridiculous. XD

ANYWAYS. Thank you so much for joining in! I loved all of this!

    1. This tag was so much fun—I loved it!

Yes! It's definitely different, but all the elements are so unique and fun. I love it!

ME TOO. I keep imagining something in the style of Tangled and I kinda sorta need it.

Ooh, I'll have to look that one up! And yes—a redemption arc would be amazing. I couldn't help feeling inspired by these questions too! So many ideas. ^_^

So glad you joined in the fairy tale tag!

I definitely agree! A Rumpelstiltskin movie would be great. Also 12 Dancing Princesses would be awesome.

Oh, and a cloak is a necessity! *imagines you seated in a corner of an inn like cloaked Aragorn in LOTR* Oh yeah!

Oh I love the historical eras you chose for a fairy tale retelling! Particularly the American Revolution - I'm a huge fan of that era and would LOVE to see a fairy tale set during it!
