Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
I found a full-cast audiobook of this on Spotify and really enjoyed it! This was way overdue a reread!
Chasing Cinders and Finding Mera by Elizabeth D. Marie
These are set in the same world as Saving Beauty but feature different main characters in each one. The twists on the fairytales are often subtle and not quite what one might expect, but the stories are engaging and I’m enjoying seeing more of the characters and the world as they continue.
Healers & Warriors by Daley Downing
It’s hard to say much about this one without spoilers, but it was full of surprises, high stakes, and plenty of twists!
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
There are a lot of “classic” books and movies that I’ve somehow missed, and after watching The Outsiders for the first time this summer, I decided to check out the book too. The story (in either format) was different than I expected, but I liked it.
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
I’m still conflicted over this one. I’d never seen spoilers and had no idea what the book was about, but it was intriguing and kept me listening to see what was really going on.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares
A comfortable summer read. I like revisiting the characters and their stories.
This is What Happy Looks Like and Happy Again by Jennifer E. Smith
This book is so cozy and summery, and the novella is a cute follow-up.
These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnely
I liked this one well enough, but the mysteries were pretty easy to guess and left me wishing there had been a little more surprise to them.
Sentinel and Vanguard by Jamie Foley
The superpowers in this world are cool, and I really like the post-apocalyptic fantasy setting. And Jet. Jet intrigues me.
The Electrical Menagerie and Arbrook Huxley & the Star-Crossed Lovers by Mollie E. Reeder
*screeches* THIS BOOK.
I’m not sure there was anything about The Electrical Menagerie I didn’t like? It’s vibrant and full of wonder and is a refreshing read. I finished it and immediately wanted to start reading it all over again. The Huxley short story was a hilarious little adventure as well.
Beaumont & Beasley series and Horseman by Kyle Robert Shultz
Rereading the first three novels and earlier side stories of the series was as much fun as reading them the first time, but with more details to pick up on this time around. I’m really intrigued by the mysteries building in the newest installments.Horseman was a lot of fun and super twisty, and I really liked all the nifty connections to the B&B stories.
How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr
This was pretty good, though it took me a while to really feel connected to the characters. I liked the parallel journey of the main characters though.
Illuminae and Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
I started the audiobook of Illuminae having forgotten most of what happened in the story (I read it a couple of years ago and sort of forgot? Oops.). It’s still not a favorite series, though the audiobooks are really cool with lots of sound effects and a full cast. I plan to finish the trilogy in this format.
Crowning Heaven by Emily Hayse
I’ve been intrigued by this one ever since first hearing about it on social media, and it proved to be an entertaining and unique fantasy story! It took me a while to remember all of the characters, since the cast is pretty large, and to feel like I had a grasp on how the world worked, but overall I enjoyed it!
At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon
The first time I read this series I was in my teens, and I’ve wanted to revisit them ever since (and because I still haven’t read the newer installments). So for September, my mom and I chose this one as our next buddy-read! Such a cozy read, perfect for welcoming autumn.

That Anne of Green Gables audiobook sounds AMAZING. I still need to read The Outsiders...

The Anne audiobook was a lot of fun! (I think it's also available through Librivox?)
DeleteI was surprised by how well the Illuminae format worked in audio, but it's surprisingly immersive (I've found it way easier to keep track of the characters this way!). More like an audiodrama than a book, really...

ReplyDeleteI haven't read through the Anne of Green Gables series since I was 16. It's been a decade! o.o It's way, way, waaay past overdue for a reread!
Healers and Warriors is on my TBR! I'm really looking forward to reading it! The Electrical Menagerie too. I'm hoping to read that one VERY soon. I'M SO EXCITED. It sounds AH-MAY-ZING! And of course you know my love for The Sentinel Trilogy and Beaumont and Beasley. Hehehe.
I read We Were Liars a couple of years back and yeah...it was a strange book. I REALLY enjoyed it, but I was also very unhappy about all the language. And all of it was so weird. o.o But fascinating! In the end, I really enjoyed it, it's just...unexpected. Haha.
Some of these others I really need to add to my TBR as well. As if it's not big enough. XD

I loved the Anne books when I read them as a teen, but I'm still trying to work up the courage to read the revisit the rest of the series! (So. Much. Sadness. O_O)

Oh yessssss. I'm still not sure what I think of We Were Liars—it all made sense after reading but how did the author do that!? None of my theories were even close.
(Can one have too many books on their TBR? Hehe.)
