What’s on My Summer Reading List?

A few weeks of spring remain, but I’m kicking off my summer reading a little early this year! I mean, if the weather says it’s summer, it totally counts, right?

I haven’t made an “official” summer reading list in a rather long while, but this year there were several titles I wanted to revisit or check out over the coming months, so I figured: Why not?

This list is probably a bit on the optimistic side as far as how much reading I will accomplish, and I’m sure I’ll come across other titles to add later. For now, here’s what I’m looking forward to reading:

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares
These books take place over the summer months and have often been part of my summer reading for years. I’m planning to read these four (and continue pretending the fifth one didn’t happen).

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
I’ve had this on my reading list ever since I acquired the lovely Word Cloud Classics edition pictured below, and I am making slow progress through it. It’s different than expected, but good.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I always think of this one as a summer read (in part because some of the story takes place during the summer, but mostly because the first time I read it I was on vacation at the beach). It’s overdue a reread.

Rulers & Mages by Daley Downing
Also on my shelf of current reads. I reread the first volume before starting this, and the third comes out later this summer and I’m hoping to check it out as well. While taking place during autumn and winter, it’s a fun adventure for summertime reading.

This Is What Happy Looks Like and Happy Again by Jennifer E. Smith
One of my favorite summery reads, I’m planning to read the novel and the followup novella.

Beaumont and Beasley series by Kyle Robert Shultz
I’m a little behind on some of the spinoffs and short stories, but since a new book is coming out soon, what better time than to reread the whole series?

Crowning Heaven by Emily Hayse
I’ve seen snippets of this one on Twitter for a while and have been intrigued. I can’t wait to check it out.

Saving Beauty by Elizabeth D. Marie
This one has been on my list for a little while now. It’s the first in a series of fairy tale retellings, so I’m excited to see the spin it takes.

Sentinel by Jamie Foley
This one has been on my TBR ever since I first heard about it from Christine, so I’m planning to (finally) read it this summer.

Everywhere You Want to Be by Christina June
I loved It Started With Goodbye, so I’m excited to check out this sequel too.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
I bought Wires and Nerve: Gone Rogue earlier this year and still haven’t read it, so I’ll be rereading the entire series before I dive into that graphic novel. And really, does one need a reason to reread TLC?
What does your summer TBR look like? Any fun rereads? Intriguing new titles? Tell me about them in comments!

  1. This is such a fantastic summer reading list! One definitely does NOT need a reason to reread The Lunar Chronicles. I've been wanting to reread them myself. Then again, I'm ALWAYS in the mood to reread them...

And Beaumont and Beasley! YESH. Also I'm so, so excited you're going to try Sentinel! It's such a unique read.

Shamefully, those are the only ones on your list I've read. But all of these sound fantastic!

    Happy reading! ^_^

    1. Same, my friend. SAME. Hehehe. I'm used to rereading them when a new book was set to come out, so I think this will be the first time I've read them in the summer? Maybe?

I'm really excited to finally read it! It's been on my Kindle, waiting patiently. :D

  2. Look at all the books!!!! I haven't read most of these, although I have read the Great Gatsby. And the Lunar Chronicles might be something I want to check out.
