Spring Cleaning Writer Tag Challenge

Spring cleaning—it is upon us again. For me, that has mostly looked like plans to reorganize some of my shelves, possibly sorting through clothes, and thinking of ways to redecorate the area around my desk. So far, I have done...some of those things. *nervous laughter* Really though, I’m looking forward to tidying things up a little bit.

This “spring cleaning” tag comes from Sarah and was created by Deborah, and is a fun way to check in on writing progress—so here we go!

THE QUESTIONS
Dust-bunnies and Plot-bunnies: Reorganize Your Writing Goals (Or Make New Ones)
These are the goals I set at the beginning of the year:

* Finish two first drafts.
* Finish two revisions.
* Publish TAD2.

I haven’t yet completed any of them, but I would still like to try. (I say, while my WIPs snicker in the background.)

Which Stage Are You At? Expound!
a. Remodeling layouts (planning the story)
b. Painting the walls in colorful hues (writing)
c. Polishing the windows and scrubbing the floors and putting flowers in vases (editing)
d. Blueprints (not to the cleaning or remodeling yet… just drawing up plans for the very beginning inklings of a story)
e. Some combination of those things (cleaning out a closet)

My writing progress has mainly focused on TAD2 this year (aside from dabbling in side projects and such), and I would say it’s in some form of Stage C. I’ve also started revisions on another novel during Camp last month, but I’ll be pausing those until I finish TAD2, and I am experimenting with a contemporary short story.

Treasure From the Back of the Closet (Share one to three snippets you love!)
Emmie peeked over the edge of the counter, rising out of her hiding place where she’d been busy sorting the baskets of little items behind the counter—buttons, fabric scraps, threads—and tried to glimpse the visitor through the windows.
He was accustomed to the silence of those who had something to hide.
“You’re walking a dangerous path.”
“As are we all. It is the price everyone pays when someone decides to chase after an errant thought.”

3.5. Bonus: Do Some Actual Spring Cleaning of Your Writer Self! (and share a picture!)
Most of my writing happens at my desk or in the living room (the latter especially if I am working on blog-related things). I don’t have a recent photo of my desk, but here is one from November:

A few things have changed since this photo was taken. I’ve rearranged the lights (and am planning to add some new ones). There is a corkboard above the desk for holding quotes and inspiring images, and to the right, I have a small dry erase board. Pens and pencils have migrated to my Avengers popcorn bucket (located on the right side of the desk). There’s also a mini fountain on the right side, and a letterboard on the upper shelf.

Popcorn buckets: Organizing this writer’s stuff since 2012.
Who knows? Maybe I’ll do a writing space tour once I finish reorganizing it...
NOMINATING:
I’m leaving this one open for anyone who wants to participate! I’d love to see your responses, so feel free to leave a link in the comments. ^_^

    1. That's the plan! ;D Writing's always full of surprises and changes in plans, hehe. That's half the fun, no?

      Thank you! I'm quite fond of that one too. ^_^ Emmie has been fun to include more this time and I'm enjoying writing her perspective on things.

      Thanks for nominating me! I had a lot of fun answering the questions!

  2. First, "It is the price everyone pays when someone decides to chase after an errant thought.” -- I LOVE this line. All your snippets are great but this line really stood out to me so I just wanted to say I love it.

    Second, good luck with your goals! I hope TDA2 is coming along well!
