Oh, What Fun! 2017 | Treats & Traditions
Some of the best parts of the holidays are the traditions and all the good food, so this week’s batch of prompts for Oh, What Fun! are all about those two aspects of holiday celebration.
Do you make any special treats during the holidays? Which are your favorites to make? Your favorites to eat?
I love baking things, especially sugar cookies, around the holidays. This year, I’m attempting a peppermint variation of my usual recipe and I’m liking how it’s turning out so far. Usually, my grandfather and I make homemade fudge for the holidays too, which is always a favorite to make.
As for favorite to eat? Just about all of them. ;P
Do you leave out the traditional milk and cookies or something else?
It’s been many years since my family left out cookies for Santa, though when we did we usually left out a bottle or can of Coca-Cola rather than milk. I’m not sure if we’re picking up the tradition again now that my nephew’s older…
Favorite holiday flavor/scent (peppermint, sugar cookie, cinnamon, etc.)?
Peppermint is always a win in my book.
Decorating: Keep it simple or go all-out? Do you have any favorite decorations or ornaments?
Usually I keep things simple, but this year I decorated my room. My bookshelves have lights and ornaments on them and there’s a “light tree” made from fairy lights on the wall. I also have a stocking from when I was little hanging outside my room.
A few of my favorite ornaments on our tree are a snowman-themed one I
painted a few years ago and our Grinch and Max decorations (they’ve been
on my family’s Christmas trees since 2001, I think?).
What is your can’t-miss Christmas special?
A Charlie Brown Christmas, though I actually did miss that one this year… I’m hoping to catch it on another run though! Others that I rarely miss are Rudolph, The Year Without A Santa Claus, and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.

Your tree are so lovely! And I love that you have the Grinch and Max ornaments - adorable!! (I crack up at Jim Carrey's film version every year). *GASP* Homemade fudge?? With your granddad? How "sweet"!! ;D (pun intended) My grandmother makes fudge every year, and I've always said hers is the best. Do you prefer the chocolate or the peanut butter kind? I love the baking as well, but perhaps my favorite things to make are sausage balls and apple cider. Oh! and my homemade hot cocoa. YUM.
ReplyDeleteI love the classic little shows! Rudolph is so cute. And Charlie Brown is special. Never actually seen "The Year Without A Santa Claus"... But, like I mentioned above, I love watching Jim C's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas;" as well as the Barbie "Nutcracker" and Bing Crosby's "White Christmas." (Also included, usually, are some of the classic VeggieTales Christmas movies. . .) :]

Thank you! I'm not even sure where we got those ornaments, but both the animated and the Jim Carrey movies are some of my family's favorites, so we love having them on the tree! :)
DeleteChocolate is my favorite kind, though I do like peanut butter fudge too! We usually make a white chocolate kind and regular chocolate each year, with coconuts and walnuts or pecans. What's you favorite? Homemade hot cocoa is THE BEST.
I think we used to have the Barbie The Nutcracker but I'm not sure what happened to it... It's the only version I've watched of that story but I remember liking it! The Veggietales ones are so cute too! White Christmas is a favorite as well! My mom, sister, and I try to watch it at least once every December.
