Twenty-Four | August 2017

And just like that, eight months of the year are gone! Most of August seemed to pass at a leisurely pace, but the last week has been a bit of a blur. It was a beautiful last (full)month of summer though.
WRITING
Continued revisions for TAD2.
You knew this was coming, didn’t you?

It’s shaping up to be a bit longer than The Assassin’s Daughter was at this stage but there are several things I already intend to cut and trim. Once this draft is done, I’ll be taking a short break, then printing it out for my own read-through and new round of revisions. (And then after that—betareading!)

Thinking about NaNoWriMo.
It’s August so of course I’m freaking out about a November writing event. To be honest, I’m not sure what I’ll be writing for NaNo this year. I could end up being a rebel and revise a project (I have four projects vying for attention that need revisions). I have two ideas for potential first drafts, but I’m not sure either is enough for a novel.
BLOGGING
TADBookParty!
So it’s not strictly blogging, but it involved a lot of social media prep work and so I’m putting it here. Some things I learned are how to run a Goodreads giveaway and how to create an Instagram challenge. It was fun to plan and run, and I have a much better idea of what is involved should I do more things like this in the future. ^_^ (The giveaway is open for a few more days, so if you haven’t entered yet: check it out!)

ON THE BLOG
LIFE
My birthday.
I am now twenty-four years old, which does not feel as weird as turning twenty-three did. Celebratory happenings included a Middle-earth movie marathon, cheesecake, and Chinese food.

The solar eclipse!
This was the first time I’d ever seen a solar eclipse, which was pretty awesome! Mom, Dad, my sister, and I watched the total eclipse livestream when it first started, and then went out to our yard to watch the partial eclipse here. Everything around us took on a pinkish hue and it was so quiet. It was amazing to experience.

Continuing with the exercise routine.
I started the intermediate segment this month. My current goal is to exercise three times each week. Some days are much tougher than others. (Have any tips for staying motivated?)

Watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and War For the Planet of the Apes
Guardians somehow managed to be one of the darker MCU entries while also being one of the funniest and I applaud that balance. War had me tearing up in the theater by the end and was a worthy finale to its trilogy. It might even be my favorite movie of 2017.

Reading.
My mom, sister, and I chose The Magician’s Nephew for our readalong book this month. I also reread the rest of the Narnia series for the first time in several years. It’s quite possible I enjoy them even more as an adult than I did as a younger reader.

How was your August? Did you watch the solar eclipse? Have you had a good summer? Tell me about it!

  1. Love this, girlie! Happy Birthday, by the way! There's nothing better than celebrating it with family and a LotR marathon. Hope you had a lovely day!

I am anxiously awaiting TAD2! If you need a beta-reader, I'd be happy to sign up!!!! Your first novel was a great intro and now I can't wait to see what happens next. :D Keep on keeping on! You've inspired me to keep writing in the hopes I'll have a book on the shelves someday.

The solar eclipse was AMAZING. Such an incredible display of God's might and power in His creation. I was fortunate enough to live in an area where we could walk outside our home and watch it from the yard! I will forever remember that memory of the world turning to dusk, the nighttime bugs beginning to sing, and the clouds turning pink in the middle of the day. My mind was blown!

Congrats on keeping a workout routine! That has always been a goal of mine also and I'm with you all the way - it's tough sometimes to remain diligent. I don't have any tips really, except to say that as long as you have an end-goal in mind, like remaining fit and healthy all your life, then you're good to go. ("The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage. . ." Proverbs 21:5) When we're old and gray, but yet still fit and energetic for our grandchildren, it will be SO worth it!

Thanks for sharing, my friend! Happy September!

    1. Thanks! It was a really great day! Simple, but lovely. :)

I'd love for you to beta-read TAD2! Hopefully it'll be ready to go out sometime in October, but I'll definitely let you know more details as they fall into place. :)

*hugs* You can do it! You've a beautiful writing style and I can't wait to have one of your books in my collection one day. :D

Oh my goodness, it was! It's definitely one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. That's so cool! It was so surreal to see and hear that, wasn't it?

That is so true. :) (I should write that verse down as a reminder!)

I hope your September is wonderful!

  2. I can't believe it's already September. August just FLEW.

I'm so glad to hear TAD2 revisions are going well! :D

Oh my goodness, happy (late) birthday!!! A Middle-earth movie marathon and cheesecake? Sounds like a perfect one to me! (And that Aragorn pic is great. XD)

I totally agree about Guardians 2, it was SO dark and emotional and yet SO hilarious and fun. Just...GAH. It had everythiiiing and I LOVED IT!

How fun you're rereading Narnia. I have reread those books so many times but I just NEVER get tired of them. I think they do get better and better the older we get. They're just brilliant.

I do so hope your September is spectacular! <3

    1. YES. I'm still trying to figure out what happened to the last few days! O_O

Thanks! Cheesecake and Middle-earth are a great combo. ;D (I couldn't resist the Instagram stickers on that one, lol.)

Guardians 2! *heart eyes* I haven't laughed that much during a movie in a while. It's definitely on my list of MCU favorites.

Narnia is such a great series, and I just fell even more in love with the books with this reread. There's so much to love about them!

I hope you have a fabulous September!

  3. Happy birthday! I loved seeing the eclipse, too. :) It was fantastic. I actually just walked Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I do think it was darker, but I think it definitely topped the first one. :) I especially loved the Gamora/Nebula emotional stuff. That was good times. :D
