2017 Reading Recap: April - June

It's time for another quarterly reading recap! If you want to, you can check out the first one here. At present, I’ve completed over half of my 2017 goal of 100 books, and there have been so many good ones already that choosing favorites at the end of the year will be a challenge.

Here are the books I completed since the last recap:

Martin Hospitality by Abigayle Claire
This was a cute story about family. And the watercolor cover is so pretty!

The Romanov Sisters by Helen Rappport
A reread/relisten. This one is mostly about the personal relationships among the Romanovs, and it’s an interesting read.
Once: Six Historically Inspired Fairy Tales
This was a fun collection, featuring a variety of styles and time periods. My favorite was probably Rumpled, but all the stories were really unique takes on fairy tales.

The Boleyn Trilogy by Laura Andersen
This was a series I had a difficult time putting down. The story moves really quickly, and even though the author begins with saying what will happen in the end, it was fascinating to see just how she brought those events to pass.

The Dark Unwinding and A Spark Unseen by Sharon Cameron
Reread/relisten. A fun blend of mystery and a dash of espionage. And I love the cast!

Rook by Sharon Cameron
I liked this one, but I would have liked to know more about some of the characters.

Take the Key and Lock Her Up by Ally Carter
I liked some of the twists, but it’s not really how I expected this series to end. Interesting, though.

A Time to Die by Nadine Brandes
The concept is really intriguing, and I didn’t expect some of those twists. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron
Kind of a slow start, but I did not see some of those twists coming. I’m curious to see where the next book takes the story.
Jackaby, The Map, and Beastly Bones by William Ritter
These are a little like Sherlock Holmes + The Spiderwick Chronicles. They were really fun, but I keep hearing that the series kind of falls flat after the second book, so I’m undecided about finishing the series.

Hear My Sorrow by Deborah Hopkinson
Not my favorite Dear America book, but an interesting one.

Emma by Jane Austen
This is my second-favorite Austen story and I think I love even more with each reread.

Snow Like Ashes trilogy by Sara Raasch
Snow Like Ashes was a reread (I’m giving the audiobooks a try this time). I’d guessed some of the big plot twists pretty early in Ice Life Fire and Frost Like Night, but overall I enjoyed the series. And at least a couple of the characters I liked survived. :/
Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott
Another reread. I hadn’t read this one in a few years and it was fun to revisit the slice-of-life story.

Masters and Beginners by Daley Downing
This was such a fun read! I loved the interactions of the Driscoll family and the twists on mythology.

And I Darken by Kiersten White
Not really sure how I feel about this one. I didn’t feel connected to the characters until late in the story, and the plot was really slow until almost the end. I did like how the ending was done though.

The Beast of Talesend by Kyle Robert Shultz
This was so much fun! And Crispin is my favorite.

P.S. I Like You by Kasie West
Pretty cute, if predictable.
Unblemished by Sara Ella
Lots of mixed feelings. There were so many characters and so many things going on that it was hard to keep track, although I was really curious to see how the story would unfold.

The Reluctant Godfather by Allison Tebo
A really cute, funny twist on Cinderella.
For Elise by Hayden Wand
This was really cute and I loved the narrator’s humor.

Currently Reading:
Storm Siren by Mary Weber
An Ember in the Ashes (audiobook) by Sabaa Tahir

Tell me about what you’ve been reading! What books are you looking forward to?

  2. I've heard mixed reviews about Jackaby. I think I'm going to try it out, and I'm glad you think it's fun, but I think it's one of those books where I'll have to read it to know what it's like. :P

    1. It was definitely one I wasn't sure what I'd think about it until giving it a try too. I'd love to hear what you think of it if you read it! :)
