Well, hello there, 2015.

Obviously, the new year has arrived.

With it comes a new set of goals. Instead of resolutions, I like to make goals to work toward. For 2014, I didn't really have a set list of goals (I never could decide on what it was I wanted to accomplish...). But, I did accomplish several things in 2014 that I felt rather proud of:

* Finishing the draft of The Uprising (which I decided to split up into the three books again—that's my Assassin series).
* Finished revisions for The Assassin's Daughter (I finished 1.5 rounds for it before my laptop crashed).
* Finishing at least two first drafts (The Luckless Ones and Trace)

While I had hoped to publish The Assassin's Daughter in 2014, circumstances didn't work out in favor of that. So...that was probably my biggest goal for the year, and I was disappointed I wasn't able to meet it.

That being said, I have a new list for 2015. There are about a dozen items on it, but I'll share just a few of them here.

* Read 40 books *
* Finish 3 first drafts *
* Finish 2 revisions *
* Buy a laptop *
* Stop biting my nails (again) *
* Bible-reading (at least 358/365 days) *
* Find a critique partner *
* Buy a car *

It's a more varied list than most years, but I have some big things on it. In 2014, I really pushed myself with writing-related things (I probably haven't written so much in one year since 2010), and I wanted to continue challenging myself in 2015. I also want to rebreak a bad habit, and develop some good ones.

So, there's a sneak peek at what I hope to accomplish in the new year. :) Do you have any goals for 2015?

  1. I think it's a great idea to set goals rather than resolutions! I'm all for setting smaller goals of things I know I can do than big huge "resolution" that you know you will most likely fail at! =)

    2014 was a big writing year for me to...unfourtantly not a big revising year! Hats off to you for making it so far with revisions! That's one of my main goals for the new year, though, lots and lots of revising.

    Good luck with your goals and happy new year!

    1. Definitely! I think with goal-setting it's easier because you can break up a big goal into smaller segments and work your way toward it without feeling completely overwhelmed. :)

      Thanks! :) I'm hoping to strike a good balance with revisions and drafting this year. We'll see...

      Best wishes toward your goals as well! :)

  2. I just stumbled on your blog (I clicked on your profile over at Sometimes I'm a Story) and It's so pretty!

    I'm going to try stopping bitting my nails as well :) 2014 was a writing year for me, this year looks to be revisions.

    Good luck with your goals!

    1. Hi there! :)

      I think the nail-biting will be one of my toughest goals to keep for the year. Here's wishing you the best with it too!

      Hopefully you'll have a really great year writing- and revision-wise! :)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Wow, you did a ton of writing last year! Good job! I also set goals instead of resolutions because resolutions aren't specific enough for me, so if I set resolutions I end up never accomplishing them. This year I would really like to finish at least the second drafts of my two WIPs and begin one new one. I also want to read my Bible more and find a critique partner when one of my novels is edited enough. I might even begin querying agents.

    1. Thanks! :)

      I think goals are easier to track as well, because you can make smaller goals within the big ones. Definitely less overwhelming!

      Best wishes with those writing goals! Second drafts sometimes are a little easier than the first ones, so maybe it'll be that way with yours. :)
      I've got a couple of friends and family members who read my stuff from time to time, but I haven't had a CP in a while...

      I've been aiming for reading my Bible every day for a year for a couple of years now, but I always end up missing a few. I'm hoping to get better at setting aside time each day just for reading and studying. :)

      Thanks for stopping by!
