Beautiful People: September 2014 (Villains!)

Beautiful People is a monthly blog linkup hosted by Cait at Notebook Sisters and Sky from Further Up and Further In. Each month, they post a round of questions for characters.

This month, the questions are for the villains! I was super excited to see these, though it did present something of a dilemma: Which character should I feature?

Initially, I considered the main antagonist of The Assassin’s Daughter series, but changed my mind. Instead, I’ll be featuring another antagonist from the same series.

So, time to meet Sel*!

1. What is their motive?
He has a few, but his primary motive is to prove himself.

2. What do they want, and what are they prepared to do to get it?
Well, as mentioned above, he wants to prove himself. To his father, his mentor, his (possible) future employers. Currently, he is willing to do a number of things to get what he wants, even if it means stepping away from his Spy training and acting as an Assassin...

3. How do they deal with conflict?
He likes conflict, if he is the one starting it.

Sel is cautious about how much conflict he takes part in, though. Too much and he could draw the wrong sort of attention, and then his training won’t be much use at all.

4. Describe their current place of residence.
He trains at the same academy where Kat and Ed have trained. It is isolated but not unknown. The buildings are complementary to each other, made out of gray stone and dark wood (there are dormitories, a dining hall, the main hall, and a number of smaller buildings). The surrounding landscape includes a lake and forests, and multiple training areas for combat.

5. If they were writing this story, how would it end?
He’d give himself power, I think, and do so in a way which would cost him as little as possible.

I suspect he would wish to change some laws, which would in turn change the course of the story, and because of this, he might become a very different person.

6. What habits, speech patterns, etc. are unique to them?
Sel likes to use the element of surprise and incorporates it in many of his actions. His time as a Spy’s apprentice has given him many opportunities to practice how he presents himself, so his habits and speech patterns vary according to the situation.

7. How do they show love? What do they like to do with/for people they love?
Uh, well...he doesn’t. I’m not entirely sure he loves anyone.

8. Do they have any pets?
No, he does not. A dog might’ve been a good companion for him, though.

9. Where would they go to relax/think?
Around the Academy, there are several places one might go if they wished to be alone with their thoughts. Some people frequent the lakeside, but I’m not sure Sel would do the same.

He might retreat to a corner of his dormitory’s den, or go for a run about the grounds.

10. What is their weapon of choice? (FYI: words, eyes/looks, and fists count as weapons too.)
His fists and his words, not necessarily in that order.

*Name subject to change.

    1. Thank you! :) He's something of a mysterious fellow, so I'm still trying to figure out if the name suits him yet during edits.

      Thanks for stopping by! :)
